Queensland Government grants automatic extension

The Queensland Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, the Hon. Cameron Dick MP, has issued an extension to the currency period of Queensland development approvals.

The extension forms part of the suite of relief measures deployed by the Government (facilitated by the ’emergency event declaration’) in seeking to minimise the impacts of COVID-19 on the development industry.

The Extension Notice extends the currency period of development approvals by a period of six (6) months and is applicable to ‘live’ currency periods (as at 8 July 2020) and currency periods that start before 31 October 2020.

Notwithstanding that the currency period extension is understood to be automatic, in some circumstances, we identify that it may be prudent to confirm the extension with the relevant Assessment Manager, in order to avoid future doubt and uncertainty regarding approval validity.

If you would like further information regarding how the Extension Notice affects a current or future development approval, or assistance confirming a currency period, don’t hesitate to contact us.

We trust that you are keeping well during these challenging times and we look forward to speaking with you soon.
